The South Gate will close to the public for around a month on 27th June, so its interpretation renewal project can begin.

The South Gate interpretation renewal is a project to improve the way information about the building is presented, to make it more attractive and engaging to visitors, and to include more recent research done into the history of the building. The Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk worked in partnership with Norfolk Museums Service to secure £89,500 of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, made possible by money raised by National Lottery players.

The work that will be done during the building’s closure will include installation of:

  • new interior displays and graphic panels
  • new exterior graphic panels
  • a scale model and an interactive activity table
  • new display lighting and improvements to electrical installation
  • collections of replica furniture, costume and objects
